Eurogamer's New Editor-in-Chief: My Vision for the Future (2026)

Welcome to the new era of Eurogamer! As the freshly appointed editor-in-chief, I'm thrilled to share my vision and passion for this beloved gaming website. It's a role I've dreamed of since joining the team almost a decade ago, and I'm honored to take the reins and continue building upon the incredible foundation laid by my predecessors.

Eurogamer has undergone significant changes over the years, from new ownership to talented editors and editorial directors. Despite these shifts, the core spirit of Eurogamer has remained intact, thanks to the extraordinary writers, editors, and video producers who have come and gone, leaving their unique mark on the site. Today, we welcome a new generation of talented individuals, each bringing fresh ideas and expertise to the table.

Among them is Dom Peppiatt, formerly of VG247, who joins us as deputy editor, offering his ebullient criticism, commentary, and expert editing skills. We also have Connor Makar, whose boundless enthusiasm for original reporting and fighting games (yes, someone has to like them!) is a welcome addition. Victoria Phillips-Kennedy brings her uncanny ability to craft deeply personal interviews, while Matt Wales ensures our criticism remains forensic and our editorial standards unwavering, except when Leon Kennedy is involved.

Our tireless guides team, Lottie, Kelsey, and Marie, provide vast expertise and a unique brand of gallows humor, ensuring our guides are the best and most trustworthy around. And let's not forget Bertie, a Eurogamer veteran of over 20 years, who tells stories like no other.

Change is inevitable, but it presents an opportunity for growth, innovation, and a renewed commitment to our core values. For me, it's a little bit of all three. So, let's delve into what Eurogamer means to me and why I believe it's the best video games website out there.

I love Eurogamer's idiosyncrasies and in-jokes, from our unique strapline puns to our quirky CMS quirks. I love our loyal readers, even during those rigorous comment section debates. I love how Eurogamer effortlessly transitions from serious to silly and back again. I love 'What We've Been Playing' and promise to contribute more often. But most of all, I love that Eurogamer's essence is impossible to pin down; it's a unique blend of individual experiences and perspectives.

Loving Eurogamer means embracing its entirety, not just the highlights. It's a sincere belief that we can always improve and strive for excellence. Our news should be comprehensive yet detailed, led by expertise, and driven by original reporting. Our reviews should be insightful, entertaining, and initiate conversations. They should come from a place of respect for the industry and a belief in the extraordinary potential of video games.

Our guides should be the gold standard, offering real, human-powered expertise in an era where such dedication is undervalued. Our features should be expansive, brilliant reads, showcasing great games and telling their stories. And our opinions should advocate for everyday players, developers, artists, and enthusiasts, the true heart and soul of the gaming industry.

It's a lofty vision, but one I wholeheartedly believe in. And I'm proud to say that we've been living up to these ideals. Take, for instance, Connor's recent extensive report on Amazon Games Studios and the timely story of one of its teams. Or the brilliant writing, reporting, and criticism from our team and freelancers, like Alexis Ong's preview of ZA/UM's next project, Lewis Gordon's retrospective on Lionhead's impact on AI, Rick Lane's shooter reviews, Christian Donlan's exploration of Zelda's beauty, and Vikki Blake's diligent weekend reporting.

In a world where 'quality' and 'editorial standards' are often overlooked, our mission is clear: to provide something great to read about video games every day, in our own unique way. It's a challenging task, and we won't always hit the mark, but we'll strive for excellence every step of the way. We'll aim for original reporting, comprehensive coverage, and the highest editorial standards.

I make one promise: I will do everything in my power to ensure we aim for these standards daily. It's a privilege to continue the legacy of great editors who came before me, and I'm excited to get started. Thank you for being a part of the Eurogamer community; your support means the world to us.

Here's to the future of Eurogamer!
